H-EQ (Human Emotional Intelligence) Technologies was founded on the principle that happiness is the pre-condition for powerful leadership and positive, high performing teams & workplace cultures.
Happy people demonstrate a management style called transformational leadership. Studies have found there is a strong correlation between transformational leadership and leadership effectiveness.
What is happiness? The answer lies in understanding what happiness truly means to each one of us. In that understanding there will be a soup mixture of emotional and mental states, ways of being, doing and achieving goals that will look differently for each person. Yet fundamentally the way of identifying what happiness means individually can be derived from exploring concepts and needs common to everyone.
Developed by Joy Smathers the founder of H-EQ Technologies, The Human Code is a process offered to clients combined with coaching that explores belief systems and human needs that are required to bridge the gap to our happiness and success. As a coaching professional and speaker my greatest aim is to create a space of growth, exploration, learning and inspiration for others to find their best selves and deliver humor and entertainment through shared experiences of real life and being human to audiences and clients alike.
As a leadership development coach I see myself more as a happiness, performance and success enhancer. Helping leaders bring out the best version of themselves and the potential that is already there so they see their vision, dreams and goals become reality.
As a serial entrepreneur myself I understand the many challenges faced and the need for time and space to strategically think, plan and action ideas into reality. I have always been a personal development junkie since I can remember in my early tweens. I think the reason for that has been my own relentless search and journey towards my own happiness, inner peace and success. To always find the peaceful center amidst the storms that inevitably swirl around us. Through that search coupled with life experiences I have come to realize that our beliefs, habits and emotions of our inner world create our happiness and inevitably the realities of our outer world both personally and professionally.
H-EQ Technologies is the platform which I operate from to achieve my vision, mission and purpose. It is my goal that H-EQ Technologies will grow attracting like minds of coaches, trainers, and clients alike becoming a leader in leadership development services in the technical industry sector.

PURPOSE
Why I do what I do:
Coaching and speaking in service to others to help them regain power, overcome challenges and succeed is something I wanted to do since I was sixteen years old. I see it more that it has been my calling that took years of experience and my own development to reach the point that I could.
I want to leave the world better than I found it. I have backwards engineered my vision into small actionable steps that are in line with my talents, skills and abilities that I feel best contribute to that vision.
What I value most is service, connection, learning, growth, integrity and authenticity.
Being a coach serving others is the most authentic expression of my values, who I am, and the legacy I want to leave behind.

"I suppose I have a natural cynicism about any type of personal improvement of coaching. It’s not that I don’t believe in the concept, I was just conscious that there are a lot of practitioners with a lot of different approaches and this type of coaching is not an exact science and results are difficult to measure or quantify.
